Bring your Bible and your appetite.  Fill your stomach and refresh your soul.  Join Pastor Steve Braudt in the Harvest Cafe (3rd floor, blue hallway) for dinner and discussion on one or more chapters of the Bible.  1st Kings is the current study, the menu is whatever Pastor Steve is called to prepare (burgers, soups and breakfast items are common).  This study is open to all ages - youth, adults and seniors.  The more perspectives, the better.  You are always welcome, drop in and out as you need.

The Five People You Meet in Heaven

Lenten Study at Windcove with Pastor Steve W.

Pastor Steve Williams will be offering a Lenten Study using Mitch Albom’s bestselling book "Five People You Meet in Heaven". The study will be on Thursday afternoons at 2:00 beginning February 18. We will meet in the lounge at Windcove (South Main St. campus of Western Home Communities). Classes will be 1 to 1 ½ hour in length. Reading the book is encouraged, but will not necessary, because the study will view portions of the movie each week. The beautiful story lends itself to exploring our thoughts about heaven and what our faith teaches us through scripture and tradition. As we study Christ’s redemptive death on the cross during Lent, we will seek to uncover where we need redemption in our own lives. Please sign up for the class so Pastor Steve can prepare materials. Everyone is welcome to meet us at Windcove for this class.

24 Hours That Changed the World

A seven-week, Lenten Bible study will begin Wednesday, February 10. The sessions will begin at 5:30 pm and end by 7:00. You may bring something to eat for supper as the class begins if you desire. The study takes a close look at the events and activities of Jesus during the last 24 hours of his earthly life. These activities represent the pinnacle of the gospel and the completion of God’s saving work through Jesus. They can deepen our faith and sense of appreciation for Jesus Christ.

The materials were prepared by Adam Hamilton, United Methodist Pastor of the Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas. It is one of the most highly visible churches in the country. Adam prepared the videos, which are a part of each session, on site in Jerusalem.

Lessons Learned in the Dark

Learning in the Dark

A new Bible study, "Walking by Faith: Lessons Learned in the Dark" will begin on Wednesday, January 27th, at 5:30 p.m. Some who have attended Women of Faith will remember Jennifer Rothschild who spoke a few years ago. Jennifer lost her eyesight as a teen, but gained something much more valuable—spiritual insight. With wit and wisdom, Jennifer will share how God has used her physical blindness to give her spiritual vision, teaching us to walk by faith and to trust Him when the way seems dark. This is a six week, 7 session study. In order to get the books by the 27th, please sign up quickly (before the 18th). The book costs $11. If you have questions, please contact Carolyn

Disciple 1, Sunday eve. 6:30 - 8:30

Information meeting, September 13

Study begins September 20

“Becoming Disciples through Bible Study”
Pastor Steve and Janet would like to extend an invitation to join them for a Disciple Bible Study group.  It has been several years since the Disciple Study has been offered at First Church.   Over the years, we have watched people grow in their faith in leaps and bounds through this study.  This will be the first time we have taught it together.  We will be hosting an informational meeting on Sunday, September 13 at 6:30 p.m.  The Disciple Study is an approach to the Bible that emphasizes disciplined reading and listening to Scripture.  During the course of 34 weeks, we will move through the Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation.  It will require 30 to 45 minutes of daily preparation for each class.  We have set aside Sunday evenings at 6:30 p.m. to be our meeting time.
We will be supplementing the study with pictures for our trips to the Holy Land.  The pictures will put us in the places we are studying in the Bible.  We would like to return to the Holy Land in 2011, and it has been our dream to travel with a group who been through the Disciple Study.  If you are interested in being a part of the life-changing study, please contact us or meet us on September 13!

the Band of Brothers, Thursday eve, 6:30

This is a combination social, service and study group.  Our first goal is to form friendships with other men in the church, while also contributing to the mission of the church and we'll try to learn something, too.

The Band of Brothers is a group for men interested in what it means to be men: husbands, fathers, uncles, sons and friends.  Weekly meetings are heavy on fellowship.  We share our personal victories and struggles, and offer our expert opinions to each other.  When we get around to it, we have a Bible-centered study going on.  We don’t spend all of our time sitting around talking, though.  We involve ourselves in the other ministries of the church and have social outings, too.  In the past year we’ve had (and will again) horseback ride & steaks, a tailgate party, canoe outing, cooked a meal for the congregation, and attended an Iron Sharpens Iron men’s conference.  All men, punks to geezers, married & single, are welcome to join the Band. 6:30 pm, Havest Cafe

Tuesday Night Men's Group

A new mens’ group began meeting January 12. We’ve chosen to begin by working through Coach Tony Dungy’s "Quiet Strength" study. They meet Tuesday nights at 6:30 in the Harvest Cafe (upstairs in trUth area - end of the blue hallway). This group has yet to be named, but attendance has been great in these first three weeks. The study materials are designed to foster discussions and draw out our personal experiences and perspectives.  All men 18 - 110 years are welcome to attend.
