Chancel Choir

How can You keep from singing?

Music is one of God’s great gifts to us.  I can’t imagine a world where it didn’t exist.  Music is also one of the most meaningful ways I know to worship God.   There’s something about the text of a good sacred song, combined with a wonderful melody that just seems to lift me into the presence of God.  I’m sure the same thing is true for many of you as well.

When you joined 1st UMC, you promised to give the gifts of your prayers, your presence, your gifts, and your service.  Many of you have been faithful to that promise.  Here’s an opportunity to continue to give in a new way, and to find blessings as well.  Please consider becoming
a member of the Chancel Choir.

Chancel Choir meets on Wednesday evening, from 7:30-8:30.  We sing a variety of styles of music, but each song we sing is intended to help us and the congregation worship God.  If you have never experienced the meaningfulness of rehearsing a song for several weeks, and discovering how much more powerful the song becomes with each week, you are missing a great opportunity!  It isn’t necessary that you have an outstanding voice, or that you be able to sight read music.  All that is needed is a desire to sing, a willingness to learn, and the commitment to show up on Wednesdays in the choir room.

We can never have too many singers in Chancel Choir.  If it seems to you that the choir loft is full, you need to know we can always make room for more singers.  Some of our members have sung for many years, and some for only a few.  We have great variety in our experiences and in our levels of ability, so you would be sure to fit in.  Please consider this to be your invitation, and join us in the choir room, Wednesday nights at 7:30.

We sing at either the 8:30 or 11:00 service, and usually have one Sunday a month off.  We will have schedules available at the first rehearsal.

Hope to see you on September 2.  Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns.
