Once a month - usually the first Tuesday - a group from First spends a couple hours helping at the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. We sort donated food, stock shelves and assemble packages. The atmosphere is lighthearted and fun, and they really appreciate our help. Hunger is a real issue for many people, especially in times of a weak economy. We didn't set out to become a "food church", but the need is real enough right here in our community and our neighborhoods. We're fighting hunger on many fronts by working these shifts at the food bank, by serving as a host site for Angel Food Ministries, hosting a community meal and our Give a Meal a Month program.
